About the Conference

International Conference on Empowering Indian Knowledge Systems through National Education Policy, Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Libraries for Viksit Bharat@2047

The International Conference on Empowering Indian Knowledge Systems through National Education Policy, Artificial Intelligence and Sustainable Libraries for Viksit Bharat@2047 (I-LIPS 2026) is envisioned as an important academic initiative to foster dialogue, reflection, and collaboration among scholars, educators, librarians, information professionals, researchers, policymakers, and students from India and abroad. The conference is organised in the broader national context of India’s long-term vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, which aspires to build a knowledge-driven, inclusive, innovative, and sustainable nation.

Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) represent a vast and enduring intellectual heritage rooted in India’s civilisational traditions. These systems encompass diverse domains such as philosophy, science, education, medicine, ecology, governance, arts, culture, and social practices. In the contemporary digital and globalised knowledge environment, there is an increasing need to systematically document, organise, preserve, and reinterpret Indian Knowledge Systems using modern scholarly frameworks and professional information practices. Libraries play a critical role in this process by acting as custodians, facilitators, and disseminators of authentic knowledge resources.

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 provides a strong policy framework for integrating Indian Knowledge Systems into education, research, and curriculum development. It emphasises multidisciplinary learning, technology-enabled education, critical thinking, and learner-centric knowledge ecosystems. Within this framework, libraries and information centres are expected to function not merely as repositories of information, but as dynamic academic partners that support teaching, research, innovation, and lifelong learning. The conference seeks to examine how libraries can actively contribute to the effective implementation of NEP through enhanced access to knowledge, digital services, and research support systems.

Artificial Intelligence and emerging digital technologies are rapidly transforming the information landscape. AI-based tools for information retrieval, data analytics, content organisation, recommendation systems, and digital preservation are reshaping library services and user experiences. At the same time, these developments raise important concerns related to ethics, inclusivity, data privacy, cultural sensitivity, and responsible use of technology. The conference will provide a platform to critically explore the opportunities and challenges of integrating Artificial Intelligence in libraries while maintaining human values and social responsibility.

Sustainability is another central theme of the conference. Sustainable libraries contribute significantly to social equity, environmental responsibility, and economic development by promoting inclusive access to information, adopting green practices, ensuring long-term digital preservation, and supporting community engagement. In alignment with national and global development goals, the conference will highlight innovative models, best practices, and policy perspectives related to sustainable library development.

Through keynote lectures, invited talks, technical sessions, paper presentations, and panel discussions, I-LIPS 2026 aims to encourage interdisciplinary engagement and collaborative thinking. The conference aspires to generate meaningful academic outcomes that strengthen the role of libraries and knowledge institutions in nation building and contribute to the realisation of a knowledge-empowered, inclusive, and sustainable Viksit Bharat by 2047.
